The new investment is the Clinical and Scientific Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Environmental, Civilization and Elderly Diseases named after Professor Zbigniew Religa. The investor is the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases. The cost of establishing the center is over PLN 132 million gross. The facility, which will be built between M. Skłodowska-Curie and Dąbrowskiego streets, in the area of the current car park, will be ready in the second half of 2022. It is to specialize in the treatment of people who work or have worked in industries harmful to health and who have many different diseases at the same time. The intention of this project is to create solutions so that patients who work in heavy industry - miners, metallurgists, workers of the chemical industry, who have more co-morbidities in addition to heart disease, e.g. chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, have more often kidney failure, in one place be successfully treated - said on the occasion of initiating the project prof. Marian Zembala, director of the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases. He emphasized that already now patients from other industrial regions of Poland are often referred to the ŚCCS for consultation or treatment. He pointed out that similar specialized centers were created in post-industrial centers of Germany or France. The investment will be financed mostly from the state budget (about PLN 85 million), as well as from the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment for 2014-2020 (over PLN 26 million). The general contractor is ERBUD SA, which specializes in the construction, reconstruction and modernization of hospitals and medical facilities.
